sm00th1 The Joy of Poetry Written by: Joshua Keatts a.k.a. sm00th1
Poetry is the best way in the world to express one's feelings. Most people bottle them up inside until they come rolling out in one gigantic
furious ball of emotion. This can be dangerous, or result in some very uncomfortable situations. When utilizing poetry to express the innermost emotions that are never shared with anyone, but yourself it frees the
soul. It lets out the accumulating emotions in a safe and peaceful manner. I love poetry personally because there are so many ways to put down emotions into words. It is an art form made up of words, that if done right will paint the picture in your head. Good
poetry will reduce one to tears, or can make one laugh with joy. Good poetry cuts to the soul of the reader making him stop and think.
One of the best poems I ever wrote made everyone who read it angry. I don't really know why, but it got a reaction. A reaction that cut
to people's souls and affected them. Affected them so they became angry. Good poetry always will elicit a response. There are two types of poetry that can be written. The first is a purely emotional poem
coming about when the writer is in an intense state of emotional stress or joy. These are from the very feelings that the poet is going through at that moment, and the poems are often powerful and one sided. The second
type of poem is an artistic poem. This poem is where the poet sits down to write a poem. Just to make a good poem, so he can read it or share it with others. These poems are often colorful, and can tend to be
generic based on the writers experience. A generic poem
is the worst kind of poetry to read. When a budding poet begins to write poetry he has a tendency to copy other people's style, or worse yet conform to what they think the stereotypical poet should be. Poetry is
expression of ones self with words, not conforming to a preconceived mold of what should be. Those who put regulations on poetry do no know what poetry really is. Three words could be a poem, as well as five hundred pages. Poetry knows no bounds, except for expression
in words. That is why it is so great, and why there are so many variations and ways that it can be performed. It is interesting to note that different cultures have different types of poetry. When dealing
with certain types of poetry they do have rules regulations, and standards by which it can be called that type of poetry. But keep in mind that poetry in its truest form has no bounds or regulations to be used. For those who have a difficult time expressing emotion, poetry is the
perfect way. For those who are artistic it is a great way to explore a new type of art. Poetry is a good way to expand your grasp on the English language, and all in all writing it will make one a better writer.
